Common declaration for the worldwide Climate Action Day on 6. December, 2008

For an international united front to protect the environment from the greed for profit!

WORLD | 11- 11- 2008 | I. The world is currently in a process of an accelerated turn to a global environmental catastrophe.
During the last 20 years, the number of disastrous natural catastrophes, due to the worldwide climate change, escalated. A considerable part of the world population is already directly affected by the impact of massive destructions of the environment. Mainly the poorest countries and the broad masses are to bear the main burden of the destruction of the environment. The accelerated turn to a worldwide environmental catastrophe covers essential living conditions of mankind in agriculture, the use of the seas, the forest, insidious poisoning by chemicals and respirable dust, as well as growing waste mountains.

Main causes include the beginning drastic climate changes caused by increasing emissions of greenhouse gases like carbon dioxide, nitrogen oxide and methane, and the worldwide overexploitation of natural resources. In a few years, 42 percent of the world population will suffer from water shortage and millions of people will flee from desertification, whereas in other parts of the world entire islands and coastlines are threatened with permanent inundation. US-imperialism, the biggest eco-criminal in the world, is already preparing to bring into action “mini-nukes“ against the expected streams of “eco-refugees“.II. This situation challenges the masses worldwide to actively resist against the imperialist environmental crimes and to build a militant environmental movement across countries and continents. With the imperialist ecologism, which means nothing else than to pursue reaching out for world domination in the name of environmental protection, the international financial capital prevents effective measures against the destruction of the environment. A petty-bourgeois shaped environmental movement, which had emerged in the 1970s and 1980s, was undermined to a great extent under the influence of imperialist ecologism and confined itself more and more to appeals and joint tables with UN-conferences and groups of companies. Thus, the petty-bourgeois ecologism pursued the subordination of the environmental movement under the over-exploiting international monopolies and trusts.

A new global environmental movement emerged in conjunction with the obvious failure of the imperialist climate policy. Militant actions and mass struggles of a new environmental movement were and are taking place in many countries. In countries that are exploited and oppressed by imperialism, the struggle is frequently linked with the struggle against neo-colonial exploitation and the comprehensive environmental damages by overexploitation of the natural recourses, pipeline projects, waste and toxic waste exports, agricultural mono-cultures etc. The struggle for the preservation of the natural environment has to interact with the struggle for national and social liberation against the international groups of companies and their governments.

III. The global environmental crisis as concomitant of capitalism
The relationship between man and nature took a fundamental change with the transition to capitalist production. The metabolism between man and nature for the first time took form holding the possibility to destroy the unity of man and nature. In his work “Capital” Karl Marx already pointed to this destructiveness of capitalism: „Capitalist production, therefore, develops technology, and the combining together of various processes into a social whole, only by sapping the original sources of all wealth – the soil and the labourer.” (MEW 23). The environmental crisis is a concomitant of the general crisis of capitalism and has to be combated by active resistance against the imperialist policy. This also includes the determined struggle against the obstructions of development and application of future technologies by the international monopolies, which however are not able to stop the development of new productive forces of closed-loop technology. Scientists are, e.g. with bionic, developing interdisciplinary rudiments for an amalgamation of biology and technology. However, an overall protection of the natural environment will only be possible when the power is snatched from the responsible profiteers of the international capital. Therefore, for the international Marxists-Leninists the struggle to protect the natural environment is closely linked to the struggle for a socialist alternative.

IV. The international Marxist-Leninist and workers’ movement is challenged to take over its responsibility for the struggle to maintain and protect the natural basis of life.
We, the signing revolutionary and Marxist-Leninist parties and organizations, are standing up to organize global active resistance against the destruction of the natural environment through the greed for profit by the international groups of companies and their imperialist governments on the occasion of the world climate day on 6. December, 2008.

This requires the further development of the environmental movement to a broad international united front, common and internationally coordinated actions against the imperialist environmental policy and the organization of the international exchange of experiences.

We stand up for the following demands and slogans:
 Save the environment from the greed for profit – for immediate measures to reduce the emissions of greenhouse gases!
 Immediate shutdown of all nuclear systems at the expense of those who run it – for the ban and destruction of all ABC weapons!
 International ban of the deforestation of the tropical rain forest! For the active protection of the water resources!
 Extension and broad use of all renewable energies! Drastic reduction of the emission of carbon dioxide! Immediate change to a comprehensive closed-loop economy!
 Worldwide and complete ban of carcinogenic CFCs and drastic restriction of use of FCs only in closed loops so that the ozone layer can completely recover!
 No devastation of the Arctic Ocean, which will be uncovered soon, through exploitation of the resources by the imperialist great powers!
 Solidarity with the revolutionary struggles for liberation in the entire world!
Get active for a future without exploitation and imperialist oppression – strengthen the building of revolutionary and Marxist-Leninist parties and organizations and their international cooperation!
