ISTANBUL | 06 – 02 – 2010 | Our determination to struggle against the ‘union busting’ and job lay off’s in Esenyurt has existed since 172 days with the support of national and international solidarity.
We, as Trade Union of the Municipality Workers Istanbul, 2nd Branch, despite all kinds of oppression and bad weather conditions, have been continuing our resistance with our 16 members at the front of the municipality since August 17th, 2009. We thank all our friends that supported, contributed and strengthened our struggle. This support has made us stronger and more determined to continue our struggle.
Just like in many other parts of the world, the main aggression is directed against the institutions of the people’s organizations. The principal reason for sub-contraction is to prevent the workers to organize. The main aim of the president of the Esenyurt Municipality is to stop trade union activities by firing member workers. As a result, he wants to use cheap and unorganized labor.
Despite the bad weather conditions, and existing impossibilities, the struggle of our member’s to take back their jobs continues by organizing weekly protests. The resistance in Esenyurt and similar resistances in many other places and the great resistance of Tekel-tobacco workers in Ankara is enhancing our hopes and shows everyone that unity creates stronger resistance. Within this process, on February 4th, 2010, millions of workers in all parts of our country joined the solidarity demonstrations against the violence and repression of the government.
We have more hopes to achieve the victory. Strengthening and supporting this process is more important today. We once again thank and salute all trade unions and democratic mass organizations that support our struggle in Esenyurt. Your solidarity is our struggle and we will continue our struggle.
