Public Statement from Turgut Kaya

ATHENS |24.07.2018| Turgut Kaya has released a statement about the recent events and stated that he will pause the hunger strike upon recent developments.

Turgut Kaya’s statement is as follows:

To the public

As it is known, on 30 May 2018 the Greek judgement decided to extradite me to the fascist Turkish state. I started a hunger strike on May 31st, to protest this attack against my revolutionary identity and the communist tradition I represent, to stop the decision to extradite me and to be released.

This decision by the Greek judiciary is a concrete indication of increasing aggression towards the progressive, revolutionary and communist movements globally, especially in Europe, and in this sense an extremely reactionary decision with political basis. At the same time, it opened the way to reactionary bargaining between the so-called democrat, but in fact a bourgeois state and a fascist reactionary state. When the common interests were concerned, the real face of the phenomenon called the state was coming to light. In this sense, this decision was not just threatening my individuality, but of thousands of refugees living throughout Europe. So, this attack was also a preliminary step in an attack on all political identities.

As I began my hunger strike action, I stated that the struggle evolved into a new stage and pointed out the importance and necessity of the revolutionary internationalist solidarity to react to such and similar reactionary attacks.

As a matter of fact, this solidarity has been shown throughout the hunger strike action. We once again tested and saw that solidarity is the greatest weapon of the proletariat and oppressed people.

Although I am not freed yet, as a result of the hunger strike and the solidarity generated through freedom campaign, my extradition is largely blocked. As a result, I pause my hunger strike knowing that my comrades, friends and those who stand in solidarity will stand with me until I am free. Although I am not freed yet, it is still the victory of the revolutionary will and international solidarity.

This victory is primarily of the Greek people. The international solidarity of the Greek people and the progressive, revolutionary people and organizations arise from it, especially the Greek Emergency Committee, has been decisive in winning this victory. That is why the main winner of this victory are the Greek people.

This victory is the victory of the Freedom for Turgut Kaya Platform founded by Turkish and Kurdish revolutionary and patriotic organizations in Greece.

This victory is of the international solidarity shown from Philippines to Palestine, to America; From France to Italy, to Rojava; From Pakistan to Ireland, to Germany, to Switzerland; From Belgium to Norway, to England and other countries.

This victory is of all revolutionary democratic organizations and individuals in Turkey and T. Kurdistan that showed solidarity, even in the conditions of the State of Emergency.

This victory is of migrant democratic mass organizations in Europe, mainly of ATİK-UPOTUDAK, New Democratic Youth and New Woman.

This victory is of the DHKP/C prisoners in Greece and TKP/ML prisoners in Turkey that engaged in a hunger strike in prison for solidarity.

This victory is the victory of the revolutionary solidarity.

This victory is the victory of the international solidarity.

Long live revolutionary solidarity!

Long live international solidarity!
