YPG: Gangs attack civilians close to the border

kobani 1KOBANE | 13-10-2014 | In a statement announcing the result of clashes that took place between Friday and Saturday morning, the YPG Press Centre stated that the advance of the ISIS gangs has been halted in clashes on the eastern, western and southern fronts.

YPG reported that 70 gang members were killed and that the airstrikes of the last days also proved influential and helped to inflict losses on the gangs. YPG also said that 5 YPG fighters had died in clashes in the last 24 hours.

The YPG stated that their forces are resisting with a strong determination and a spirit of devotion for the 26th day against the gang forces attacking with all their might from the east, west and south of Kobanê with an aim to seize the town.

YPG called attention that;“The gangs have high technical advantage, but, facing the strong response of our forces and therefore having difficulty in advancing into the city centre, have now started to launch suicide attacks and bomb civilians in the city and in the areas close to the border.”

The fierce clashes that started to the east of Kobanê yesterday morning continued until this morning, YPG said, adding; “Our forces, launching offensives from time to time, halted the advance of the gangs. 29 gang members were killed on the eastern front as far as we could ascertain.”

The statement informed that on the southern front, the gangs launched bombings by tanks and artillery on the emplacements of YPG forces; “While the gangs attempted to advance through bombings, our forces responded strongly, killing 17 gang members, as far as could be established.”

Having been hindered on the eastern and southern fronts, the gangs attempted to obtain some results through the use of explosive-laden trucks. 1 suicide attack on the eastern front, and another one on the southern front were prevented before the explosive-laden trucks reached YPG emplacements and the trucks were destroyed inside their areas.

On the western front -the statement said- YPG forces launched an operation last night on the base of the gangs located just outside of the city. 2 vehicles of the gangs were destroyed and 22 members of theirs were killed in the attack.

The statement said 5 YPG fighters had fallen in the clashes.

YPG also shared information about the airstrikes of the coalition forces: “Besides the clashes between our forces and the ISIS gangs, airstrikes have been carried out in recent days around Kobanê by the anti-ISIS coalition. The airstrikes of the coalition proved to be influential in inflicting casualties on the gangs. It proved that it is important that the airstrikes continue in a more influential way in order to break the power of the gangs and to repulse them”.
