ATIK | 11 – 03 – 2010 | In the early morning hours of March 4th, 2010 the security forces of the Belgium state made a raid in about 25 places and against the main headquarter of the Kurdish TV channel Roj TV. Many people have been arrested. Also the centre of KONGRA-GEL was raided, many documents were confiscated and many Kurds, including the Kurdish politicians, Zübeyir Aydar, Adnan Uzun and Remzi Kartal were arrested.
The raid was made by masked special teams of the anti-terror section. Many of the properties belonging to the raided institutions were violated and the technical equipment of the ROJ TV channel was destroyed.
In Europe such attacks that are made under the frame of the the ‘anti-terror’ laws, have been extended. Before this, in Italy and France in the raids against the Kurdish institutions dozens of persons were arrested and imprisoned. Also recently all associations belonging to the Anatolia Federation and some houses were raided and people had been arrested and imprisoned.
It is not a coincidence that these raids happened shortly after an international meeting of ministers and prime ministers of different countries was held in Spain. At this meeting, the Turkish state including Prime Minister Erdogan participated; revolutionary and progressive institutions were targeted and the preparations for the raids were made in that meeting. It can be seen more clearly now that the concerns that the Turkish state shows for solving the Kurdish national question, and their pretense for “democratic solutions”, actually aim to disguise their liquidation of the Kurdish national movement.
All over Europe they try to spread terror against institutions that wage national and class struggle, by simultaneously issuing laws of the “war against terror”. Raids against progressive, revolutionary institutions are staged, the organizations are being criminalized, and many revolutionaries and progressive individuals are arrested and imprisoned. These attacks stem from the fear of the fascist Turkish Republic and the imperialist bourgeoisie that the revolutionary, progressive, patriotic movement is advancing. But their attacks of so many years have not stopped the Kurdish movement, or eliminated the revolutionary-progressive organizations. This recent assault can also not affect them. The free press and democratic organizations of Kurdistan, and the native and migrant organizations continue their support for the national struggle for independence.
As ATIK (Confederation of Workers from Turkey in Europe), we condemn the attacks of the Italian and French states and the recent raid in Belgium. We declare that we are on the side of the free press of Kurdistan ROJ TV and democratic organizations.
We call upon the international public to take a stand against the raids in Europe and all over the world against regional, migrants, revolutionary, democratic and progressive forces. No force can stop the democratic work of the Kurdish organizations and cannot silence the Kurdish freedom press like ROJ TV.
We oppose the raids of Belgium against the Kurdish organizations and ROJ TV!
