Update for Deri-Is (Turkish Shoe and Leather Workers Union)

TURKEY | 06 – 02 – 2011 | – In DESA Sefakoy factory, one of our members , Nevzat Ulku, who was dismissed because of being member of the Union, was offered money by the administration to withdraw the court case. DESA is forcing our member because they are well aware of being found guilty as an anti-union company and try to stop the court process. Our member refused this offer.

– The resistance in DESA Düzce company continues. Despite the cold weather, our two members are waiting in front of the factory. Solidarity actions from DESA workers and workers from other Unions are also organized.
There is a need to intensify solidarity actions in national and international level in order press DESA and other brands to accept our just demands. We demand from the employer to reinstate the fired workers and give an end to the discriminatory policies over our union members.

– On 03.02.2011, Deri-Is Corlu branch joined the solidarity action for Polyplex chemical workers who have been in resistance for 45 days because of being member of Petrol-Is. Metal and textile workers who are also in resistance in Corlu participated to the demonstration. Demonstration was organized inside the European Free Zone. Despite the pressure from the police, workers enthusiastically chanted slogans, protested employers and government and showed their determanancy to defend their freedom of organization. Our members from Grup Suni Deri who have been in resistance for 55 chanted slogans for their rights.
