Tens of thousands take to the streets in Istanbul for Ahmet Atakan

YDG_AR~1ISTANBUL | 11 -09-2013 | Tens of thousands took to the streets in Istanbul today to protest the killing of 22 year old Ahmet Atakan as a result of police violence in the southern province of Hatay two days ago.

Last updates from the protests across the city are as follows;

22.46 Police are attacking demonstrators in Gazi neighborhood with their dogs, and opening fire into the air.

22.42 Fierce clashes are continuing on Democracy Street in Sarıgazi.

22.39 Intense tear gas is being used against protestors in Kadıköy. Protestors are responding to police with fireworks.

22.35 Police have staged a brutal crackdown on demonstrators in Kadıköy. People have dispersed toward Bahariye district.

22.28 Demonstrators have started to put up barricades on side streets of Kadıköy.

22.20 Protestors have started sit-in after being blocked by police forces.

22.18 Police firing blast bombs in Kadıköy’s Söğütçeşme area.

22.15 Police is attacking demonstrators with tear gas and rubber bullets. Protestors are setting barricades on fire.

22:10 Police have blocked the crowd marching in Beşiktaş on Maçka way.

22.09 Demonstrators in Kadıköy are responding to the police attack with fireworks and putting up barricades.

21.54 People in 1 Mayıs neighborhood, in the district of Ataşehir, are marching for one and a half hour now. Marches will be staged in the neighborhood at 8 p.m. every day.

21.51 Clashes broke out between demonstrators and police in front of the police station in the district.

21.46 People in Beşiktaş are marching to Barbaros Boulevard.

21.40 Attendees of the Abbasağa Forum are staging a march.

21.38 People in Sarıgazi are carrying armchairs and carpets from their houses to reinforce the barricades. Many have been reported on the foot.

21.36 People in Gazi neighborhood are marching to İsmetpaşa Street.
