PVV excluded from Almere Council’s Executive

HOLLAND | 09-04-2014 | PVV excluded from Almere council’s executive Wednesday 09 April 2014 The anti-immigration PVV is not included in the new coalition council for Almere, despite emerging as the biggest party in last month’s local election vote.

The Liberal democrats D66, who were second in the vote, are taking the lead in the negotiations, which also involve the Labour party, Christian Democrats, Socialists and left-leaning local party Leefbaar Almere. The right-wing VVD Liberals, who have said they would be prepared to work with the PVV, changed their minds in the wake of the anti-Moroccan chanting led by PVV leader Geert Wilders on election night. Eight of the nine PVV councillors also said they would break with the national party over the chanting but later changed their minds. The PVV only took part in the local elections in Almere and The Hague and lost support in both cities.
