Message of the ILPS Youth Commission

Support the Greek youth and people’s struggle for change!

ilpslogo1ILPS Youth | 22- 12- 2008 | We in the International League of People’s Struggle Youth Commission express our fervent solidarity to the Greek youth and people in their sustained demonstrations and actions showing their utmost disgust to the right-wing K. Karamanlis Government and social-democrats.

The youth’s indignation to the killing of the 15 year old youth on December 6 by the Athens police, and the government’s de facto toleration of this repression has sparked the massive protests which were later on joined by the workers, immigrant youth and general public. What seemed to be at first a show of revulsion to the killing of Alexis Grigoropoulos, is now developing into an uprising of the Greek people. The pent-up anger on the corruption, state repressiveness and anti-people policies of the Greek government is translated now to direct actions calling for the toppling of an unpopular and anti-people government. We condemn the government’s use of excessive force and terror against the legitimate Greek people’s protests and using the presence of handful anarchists as a lame justification.

The occupation of the Polytechnic University by the students which sparked like a prairie fire in hundreds of schools, universities and technical universities all over Greece concretely resembles the youth defiance moved another step forward, and transforming these institutions into open venue of political discussions of the youth and people in the form of General Assemblies.

We are inspired by the courage and militance of the Greek youth and students, who in thousands united and came out of their villages, schools and universities and cities to protest and deliver a strong message that it is change they want. They want a change from a system that sells out the future of the youth and breeds a murderous regime.

Like the youth and students movement in 1973 Uprising against the Junta and the struggles of the Greek people in the 1970s, what we are witnessing now is promising a more formidable youth movement if it continuously link its strength to the workers and people’s movement, and capable of ascertaining the lessons of history. This also comes at a time when international capitalist system is mired with deep crisis and deliver intolerable onslaught against the peoples of the world.

As we get courage from the Greek youth and people’s uprising, we further commit to further foster a militant youth and students movement all over the world which will contribute to deliver big blows to the imperialists and their plunderous and fascist minions in our home-fronts.

Support the general strike and mobilizations calling for change and genuine transformation in the Greek society and government!

Justice to Alexis Grigoropoulos and all victims of Greek state terror!
Long live the militant Greek youth and student movement!
Long live the Greek youth and people’s struggle for genuine change!
Long live International solidarity!
