Kazova workers open retail store and alternative centre

kazovaISTANBUL | 25-01-2014 | With the slogan “Affordable sweaters for the people” Kazova workers will today open their first retail store and alternative centre.

The opening will be marked by a march to the store at 3.30pm from Şişli Mosque.  Kazova workers declared their victory on November 10 after a 10 months long struggle against the factory owners. They had occupy the premises and finally a court ruled that their former employers Ümit Somuncu and Mustafa Umut will have to hand them their machines in return to the salaries they had not paid to the workers.

Bosses Ümit Somoncu and Mustafa Umut had suddenly left the factory and disappeared after the protest of 94 workers who were denied to receive their salary and compensation.

Back in September the workers of the Kazova textile factory in Istanbul’s Bomonti district have exhibited their own products, pullovers, in a fashion show outside the factory.
