HDP announce its list of candidates for local elections

ISTANBUL | 17-01-2014 | The HDP (Peoples Democracy Party) has announced its list of candidates to fight the local elections scheduled for 30 March. At a meeting in Ankara to introduce the candidates HDP Co-chair Sebahat Tuncel said: ” We will promote freedom for women and unity and togetherness.” After Tuncel’s speech the candidates were introduced. The HDP’s Istanbul candidates are Sırrı Süreyya Önder and Pınar Aydınlar.

The HDP will contest the 30 March local elections with the slogan ‘the city is yours’.

After a speech by the BDP Co-chair Selahattin Demirtaş, HDP Co-chair Sebahat Tuncel emphasised that they wanted a new Turkey, saying:  “The others want the old system to continue, but we want to break it. We want to establish a new system together. This is the difference. We are for equality and freedom. We are aware that there can be no democracy without women.” Tuncel added that everyone would see women’s perception of local government after the elections.
