ATIK | 10-05-2014 | G.N Saibaba who was abducted on May 9 2014 by the State security forces , is a wellrespected and recognized activist and intellectual known for his struggle against the capitalist-imperialist system and their Indian representatives. He has assumed many important tasks and played a integrative role in the struggles of the peoples ranging from Kashmir to Tamil Nadu and Nagaland, Adivasis and Dalits.
Dr. GN Saibaba was abducted on May 9th by the Mharashtra plain clothed police on the Daulat Ram College while returning home. Dr. Saibaba who is disabled and is on a wheelchair was reported to be blindfolded and pushed into a vehicle. Dr. Saibaba, who was abducted in a contra style and method, is under life threat.
After this secretive abduction from within the university premises, Dr Saibaba was taken to Gadchiroli in Maharashtra by flight. While none of his family members were informed, he was able to get hold of a phone and informed his family of his whereabouts and where he was been taken to. This was the last news from him. While this abduction was believed to be in relation to fabricated accusations, Dr. Saibaba has been under constant threat and repression by the police over a year. A previous abduction attempt was unsuccessful. His residence was raided and interrogated by the state security forces on 12th September 2013 and 7th January 2014.
Abductions, raids and threats are tools of repression widely used by the rulers against all opposition forces and clearly show that the rulers have no limitations in the extend of repression used against revolutionary, democratic forces. The abduction of Dr. Saibaba is undoubtedly directed against the people’s struggles in order to suppress and intimidate these struggles. The Indian ruling classes in their strive to maintain their interest within the existing system have always attempted to suppress and repress those in the forefront of the struggles through killings and abductions as was in the recent past with operations such as Operation Green Hunt, The Revolutionary Democratic Front, of which Dr. Saibaba is the joint-secretary has issued a statement on the abduction and called for international solidarity and protests and demanded the immediate release of Saibaba.
We as ATIK condemn the abduction of Dr. Saibaba and call upon all the democratic, revolutionary, progressive organizations and individuals to condemn this arbitrary abduction and ask you to send protest letters to the Indian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and to organize protest pickets in front of Indian Embassies.
