BDP MPs Yıldırım and Ayhan released

milletvekiliAMED| 03-01-2014 |Diyarbakır 5th High Criminal Court has unanimously ruled the release of BDP’s (Peace and Democracy Paty) two jailed deputies Gülser Yıldırım and İbrahim Ayhan.

The court ruling for the release of two deputies came after the Constitutional Court accepted the application made by detained Yıldırım and Ayhan, who are in custody in the KCK (Kurdistan Communities Union) trial, on the grounds of “prolonged detention” and “a violation of the right to be elected”.

The court decided that their prolonged detention is unreasonable, and that their rights to vote and to be elected had been violated. The court decision was also published on official gazette.

Yıldırım and Ayhan are expected to be released from prison in the coming hours.

Yıldırım has been jailed since 14 February 2010 and Ayhan since 1 October 2010.
