For two days, we waited in anxiety hoping that despite of all, “Maybe again, her heart full of resistance would surprise us and she would return to us” Unfortunately, this did not happen. The hardship of all these years has taken its toll.
Our resistance flower, the mother of all revolutionaries Güzel ana, suddenly fell ill during the funeral of another comrade on the 18th September and was taken to the hospital. In Taksim First Aid Hospital, she was kept in intensive care unit with a diagnosis of brain hemorrhage. On the morning of the 20th of September, she sadly passed away, joining all those beautiful people she loved so much.
She was a Symbol of Struggle
Despite all the difficult processes of the class struggle, she never lost her belief in the struggle.
As a relative of a disappeared person, she defied all conditions together with the Saturday People, throughout the years to search for those who were disappeared by fascism.
She fought against fascism together with revolutionaries, during the Death Fast of 2000, in all prison massacres or resistances. She supported workers strikes either as a visitor or as a participant, when a femicide or oppression against women had occurred, she was there to fight against the male dominated system. She was at the funerals of revolutionaries slain by fascism as a bearer or in the front rows.
Now the Saturday People will be on the streets incomplete. We will look for her in all worker resistances, in all protests against women`s crimes or for rights, in the fields, street resistances and in the picture of every resistance …Our loss is big …We have lost our beautiful mother who never left the struggle in in any field of life in a honorable way. She was the mother of all revolutionaries, especially the mother of the Partisans. All her hard work and efforts, her sacrifices and warm compassion will remain in us and everyone she touched. She will never be forgotten.
Now is the Time to Grow the Struggle
As ATIK, Yeni Kadın and YDG, we extend our deepest condolences to Güzel ana`s family and relatives.
The painful news we have had to endure in the past period, hurts our hearts, but to be worthy of our fallen ones we will give our values even more importance. We will grow our hope, love and struggle with all we have learned from them and will make it more meaningful with their memories. Rest in Peace our resistance flower that has challenged fascism throughout her whole life…
Güzel Şahin is immortal!
